Lubbock Police on Thursday morning posted a reminder on its Facebook page about the website lubbockpdsettlement.com. The original release was on August 26.
A cursory glance did not reveal any major changes to the website from August 26 to the present.
LPD’s Facebook post on Thursday was a reminder that Hispanic or female applicants for the job of probationary police officer from January 16, 2010, and June 6, 2015 may be eligible for cash, reconsideration for a job and if hired then retroactive seniority.
“Approximately 12% of white applicants failed the written examination the first time they took it…,” a federal lawsuit said in December of 2015. “Approximately 32% of Hispanic applicants failed the written examination the first time they took it…”
Approximately 19% of male applicants failed the PFT [physical fitness test] the first time they took it…,” the lawsuit said. “Approximately 62% of female applicants failed the PFT the first they took it…”
Lubbock chose to settle out-of-court rather than fight the federal government in court.
The highlights of the settlement were disclosed in court records and city council records long before lubbockpdsettlement.com was put online. Those highlights were widely reported.
