Nearly 16 years after Stefanie Hill, 19, was found murdered in her apartment complex, Lubbock Police continue to investigate leads in her case.
EverythingLubbock.com and KLBK News asked Detective Zachariah Johnson with the Lubbock Police Department if the case was considered a cold case.
“No ma’am, it’s a very active investigation.” Johnson said. “And we’re actively breaking it down, looking at it, meticulously, looking at our evidence, and following … science [for] what direction we need to go.”
According to Lubbock Police, Hill was found dead in her Indiana Village Apartment on May 29, 2000.
Police said she had left work around midnight and by almost 1:00 a.m. Lubbock Fire Rescue was called about a fire in an apartment. Police said she was found dead inside.
“Stefanie’s family, Stefanie’s friends, need to know that the Lubbock Police Department has not forgotten about her,” Johnson said.
“Just because a case runs into roadblocks doesn’t mean that our victims, doesn’t mean that the families are forgotten. It simply means that at that current time, leads are not available to pursue,” Johnson said.
