WalletHub.com recently put out a study ranking 150 best large cities to start a business in. The study was totaled by judging the business environment aspect, access to resources and business costs.
“We really have this thing about supporting locally owned businesses so I think that just comes with the flavor and how we’re kinda wired here in West Texas,” Diannah Tatum, Chairwoman of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce said.
Lubbock placed 13th overall and scored 5th highest in the access to resources. Local business owners agreed with the survey and said Lubbock is a great place to own a business.
“I think Lubbock embraces local businesses and other business very well here. We have Texas Tech and a lot of other sports going on, but just other businesses, especially if you create a need for the family based environment,” JJ Killeen, the Managing Partner at 4ORE! Golf said.
Even though Lubbock placed 86th in the business costs section, Tatum argues the Hub City is still very affordable.
“If you go to rent a location for your business it just seems like the rent is reasonable. Our cost of living is so much better than the big cities so it’s just a really good place to do business,” Tatum said.
A great resource for entrepreneurs is the Northwest Texas Small Business Development Center.
