Lubbock Sportsbike Group Honors Rider ‘Brendon Everett’ Who Died In Crash

The Lubbock Sportsbike Group dedicated the day to honoring the life of their fellow rider, 20 year old Brendon Everett who died in a crash last weekend. Police said Everett had a collision with the back of a vehicle on the 700 block of West Loop 289. Everett died at the scene. Jaime Lee said that he almost went along with Brendon but decided not to go. When he received the call about the accident, he went to the scene immediately.

“I was hoping it wasn’t him, but deep in my heart I knew it was him.” said Lee. “It was rough, I broke down, I said a little prayer for him.”

The group dedicated the day to Brendon. They started at the sonic on University Drive, a place they say is their usual spot for starting a ride. The next stop was to where Brendon died, off of the West Loop, where the group held hands and said a prayer in remembrance of the 20 year old. A gathering also took place at the Trinity Fellowship Church on Canton Drive, where the riders talked about the good times they had with him.

“This sonic is the last place we all got together when he was with us, so I wanted everyone to meet here today in honor of Brendon, to remember him.” said Lee.

23 year old Michael Helms said he knows that doing what he loves is taking a risk, but that he makes sure to take every safety precaution possible. He emphasized the importance for both riders, and drivers to make a conscious ever to look out for one another on the road.

“We wear our gear, we wear our gloves, we wear our helmets, our jackets, our protection vests,” said Helms. “Use your hand signals, not just your blinkers and make yourself known for other vehicles.”

Jaime Lee said that for the past week Brendon has constantly been in his thoughts, and as a father of young children, Lee said he finds himself second guessing his favorite past time.

“Life is too short, and if you have a family you don’t want to leave them behind,” said Lee. “Selling my bike has crossed my mind.”
