COLLISION IN DESERT CENTER RESULTS IN TWO DEATHS
On 03/13/2017 at approximately 4:15 p.m., a fatal collision occurred in Desert Center, CA. Kris Deleon, 39, from Lubbock, TX was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer westbound on Interstate 10, east of Cottonwood Springs Road. The Ford’s left rear tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The Ford traveled to the right, off the roadway and rolled multiple times. During the collision, the right front and left rear passengers were ejected from the vehicle.
The two passengers who were ejected from the Ford were pronounced deceased on scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office should be contacted for their identities. Kris Deleon sustained major injuries, and a five month old female passenger sustained minor injuries. They were both air lifted to the Riverside University Health System.
This collision is still under investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision. The two parties that died in the collision were not properly restrained in seatbelts. The two survivors were restrained properly.
* Note: Facebook posts indicate Kristen married in late January. She had been listed as Kristen Duran on Facebook and changed it to Kristen Deleon.
