A Lubbock woman died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on June 30, nearly 8 miles northeast of Abilene.

According to DPS, Lubbock resident Angela Lynn Adkins, 52, was traveling north on Highway 351, when she tried to pass an SUV in a no-passing zone. She swerved back into her original lane “to avoid an oncoming vehicle.”

DPS said Adkins “overcorrected and went back into the southbound lane,” crashing head on with the SUV.

DPS said Adkins died at the scene. Her passenger was identified as Charles Leslie Dixon, 48, of Graham. Dixon was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV, Bruce Waylon Foreman, 62, of Abilene, was also transported to the hospital, with serious injuries, according to DPS.

DPS said the crash remained under investigation.
