Lubbock Woman Gets 40 Years for 2014 Murder

Elizabeth Martinez, 29, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Leo Badillo in October, 2014.

She pleaded guilty to the murder charge in a Lubbock County courtroom on Thursday.

Badillo was found shot in his driveway on the 1900 block of 27th Street on October 14, 2014, Lubbock Police said. He died a short time later.

Days after Badillo’s murder, his son, Leo Badillo Jr., said he always looked up to his father.

“I always wanted to tell him I loved him, but I never had the chance to,” Badillo Jr. said in 2014.

A second person was initially arrested in the case, but was later released.
