According to multiple media outlets on Wednesday, the uterus transplant for a 26-year-old woman from Lubbock has failed.

The New York Times reported, “The organ was surgically removed on Tuesday, officials at the Cleveland Clinic said on Wednesday.”

She was known to the public only as Linsdey because her last name was withheld to protect her privacy.

The removal came later on the very same day as the clinic held a news conference to announce a successful transplant.  Lindsey participated in the news conference.

The clinic said in a written statement, “While this has been difficult for both the patient and the medical team, Lindsey is doing well and recovering.”

Lindsey was born without a uterus and so she was not able to get pregnant.  She and her husband had adopted but had no children of their own.

Her situation made national news because the first woman in the United States to get a uterus transplant.
