A Lubbock woman has started a Neighborhood Watch in her community after her car was recently burglarized.

Rachael Miller said it was July when she started seeing an increase in crime in the Cooper Ridge neighborhood. On Sunday morning, her surveillance cameras caught four men breaking into her cars.

“They were locked and somehow they unlocked them,” Miller said. “And we were a little upset about it.”

Only a cell phone and set of headphones were stolen. But Miller had her boyfriend install even more surveillance cameras.

She called police and told them about the incident, but realized there was only so much they could do. She told us there are only so many officers but she had plenty of neighbors, so she posted the idea for a Neighborhood Watch on the Nextdoor App.

“I didn’t know of one in the neighborhood, so I figured why not see if anyone else was interested in doing one,” Miller said. “Basically to get the neighbors to watch out for each other, report suspicious activity, you know not everything is an emergency. To know what to do when something happens and who to call. “

Miller said the Lubbock Police Department thought she had a fabulous idea and gave her plenty of information and resources to get started.

The first Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at Cooper North Elementary at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 5th.
