Lubbock Police on Wednesday confirmed the death of Remonica Johnson McAdoo, 46, and released a police report.
She died on Saturday night.
A Facebook page called Restoring Hope Lubbock described the situation as “the first death of the homeless community of the new year.”
Police confirmed it’s the first homeless death of 2017 that the Homeless Outreach Team knows of.
On Monday, Restoring Hope Lubbock said she froze to death. Officially, the cause of death was still pending on Wednesday according to the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s office.
The temperature in Lubbock at 8:00 p.m. Saturday was 32 degrees.
A police report said McAdoo (known also as Monica Johnson) was in the 2900 block of Interstate 27. The report said her husband left for about two hours to get food. She was described as “awake and smoking a cigarette” when he left.
When he returned, he found her face down and unresponsive. He ran to get help and CPR was started. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
