The city of Lubbock’s mosquito hotline got an increase in calls after the warm up over the weekend.

Tim Segura with the city of Lubbock Vector Control said they had about 300 calls in two days. With the large increase, Vector Control is aware of the issue and is working to take care of it.

“That’s what we’re doing right now, going neighborhood to neighborhood, like I said, starting at one end of the city, going to the other, trying to cover as much ground as we can, as quickly as we can,” Segura said.

According to Segura, this process could take 5 to 10 days, and they are not only spraying during the day, but they are also doing what they call night fogging as well.

“Right now, our priority is to do it across the city, so we’re still listening to the hotline, but we’re actually not basing our spraying off of the hotline right,” Segura said. He said after they finish this cycle of spraying across the city, they will go back and check the areas that have been called in to the hotline.

The mosquito hotline number is 775-3110.

Segura said they are also trapping mosquitoes to have them tested for West Nile.

“We actually have a contract with the county of Lubbock, all of the municipalities, including Buffalo and Ransom Canyon last week, we cover those,” Segura said. “When we get done with the city spraying, we’ll go back and we’ll go once again to the municipalities out there.”
