Job statistics released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission show Lubbock’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.1 percent in December, down from 3.4 percent in November.
An estimated 148,200 residents in Lubbock metropolitan statistical area were employed in December, up from 147,900 in November. These figures are not seasonally adjusted.
The unemployment rate just one year ago was 3.0 percent for the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area.
The Texas Workforce Commission says the Amarillo area had the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.9 percent last month. The Austin-Round Rock area and the Lubbock both tied for second place at 3.1 percent.
The unemployment rate in Texas rose to 4.7 percent in December.
