Lubbock’s local unemployment rate rose from 3.2 percent in May to 3.8 percent in June, according to the latest numbers released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.

The driving factor in Lubbock’s higher unemployment rate for June was a decrease in the certified labor force from an estimated 153,800 to an estimated 152,900.

The number of people with a job dropped from an estimated 148,900 to 147,100.

The Texas Workforce Commission says the Amarillo area has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, followed by Austin-Round Rock and Midland

The statewide unadjusted employment rate for Texas is now at 4.2 percent, down from 4.3 percent in May.
