Job statistics released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission indicated Lubbock’s unemployment rate rose slight during the month of January.
January’s local unemployment rate was 3.4 percent, up from 3.2 percent in December.
An estimated 152,500 residents in the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area (MSA) were employed last month. These figures are not seasonally adjusted.
The Hub City does maintain one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state.
The Texas Workforce Commission said the Amarillo MSA and Lubbock MSA tied for the lowest unemployment rate in the state during the month of January. The unemployment rate for both cities was 3.4 percent.
The Austin-Round Rock MSA came in third with an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent.
The Beaumont-Port Auther MSA had the highest unempoyment rate in Texas at 8.2 percent
