Police arrested a man on Monday afternoon for allegedly attacking his mother while on drugs, according to his mom.

A police report stated at 12:43 p.m. in the 400 block of Renfro Drive, Jay Ebarb, 50, was taken into custody after he reportedly assaulted his 73-year-old mother.

The suspect had gone to his mother’s home to visit his father, but when he arrived, his mother said she could tell he was on drugs at that moment and told him to leave. Ebarb then began throwing the woman around the yard and was biting her arms. A brother stepped in to help and Ebarb swung a knife at the suspect.

Ebarb took off into nearby woods when police were closing in on the scene. Officers were able find him hiding there and arrested him.

The suspect was on the phone with dispatchers and had given them a fake name when he was taken into custody. He was still in possession of the knife during his arrest.

Officers discovered large bite marks, bruises and swelling on both the victim’s arms. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Ebarb was booked into the Angelina County Jail on $1,500 bond.

Judicial records show Ebarb has a violent history, including several assault on a public servant and family members.
