Lynn County’s 100-year-old courthouse will receive a $4.8 million grant from the Texas Historical Commission to rejuvenate the county courthouse back to its 1916 appearance.

Mike Braddock, the Lynn County Judge, said officials have been working for this grant since 2003.

“We finally got an emergency grant in 2014 which helped upgrade the electrical here. This past March, I believe it was, I went down to Austin and visited with them again about that and we went ahead and applied for the full grant and got $4.8 million,” Braddock said.

He added that a lot of the windows will be gone and replaced.  The rejuvenation will take about a year and a half. Employees will have to relocate to surrounding businesses in the meantime.

“We are hoping to get as close as it was in 1916 as it can possibly be. Our district court room has a balcony in it that has a false ceiling in it right now that I’d like to see come out and get back to the original,” Braddock said.

On August 27th, the courthouse will celebrate its 100th year celebration.  People can enjoy food and let people walk through the courthouse.
