The 25th annual 4th on Broadway celebration is approaching and crews began setting up the tents and the stage on Thursday. Many parts of this year’s 4th on Broadway will be new this year, including the location: a majority of the celebration will happen at Mackenzie Park. The 4th on Broadway organizers will also be using drone footage to document the parade.
Christopher Snow of Lubbock did a test run of his drone Thursday in Mackenzie Park. He is volunteering his time and his drone on Saturday to help document all the events for 4th on Broadway with aerial footage.
“We initially approached them so that we could get some footage of the Lubbock marching band and they said to us they were looking for someone to get a few aerial shots for promotional purposes,” Snow said. “so we told them we’d be happy to do that for them.”
Snow will be filming with his drone along the entire parade route and then in Mackenzie Park when all the festivities begin. He hopes to capture the spirit of 4th on Broadway from an aerial perspective.
Snow says that if you see the drone overhead, don’t be alarmed. “We’ll be staying a safe distance above the parade goers,” Snow explained, “Most people may not even notice it’s there, it will just be flying back and forth to go get footage.”
Other updates in the park include, preparing the fireworks, locating spots for the vendors, and gearing up electrical circuits for all the equipment. Crews will continue setting up Mackenzie Park tomorrow.
