A 20 year-old man faces charges stemming from a fatal accident that happened in Weslaco over the weekend.

On Saturday, January 9th, at around 7:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Mile 10 North and Westgate Drive in response to a crash.

According to the press release, the man identified as Michael Rowlett, was driving a maroon Ford F350 when he ran a red light and stuck a maroon Chevrolet S10 SUV. Rowlett and a passenger fled the scene on foot. The driver of the Chevy S10 was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Rowlett turned himself in and was charged with intoxicated manslaughter. Rowlett was issued a bond set at $100,000 dollars.
