A Canyon man has died after being struck by a train Friday evening.

Canyon Police say the man was riding his bicycle southbound on 15th Street around 10:30 p.m.

The victim stopped for an eastbound train. Instead of waiting on the right side of the arms, he waiting closer to the tracks.

While waiting for the train, a second train, traveling westbound, came down the tracks.
Canyon Police Chief Dale Davis said the train engineer saw the man on the tracks and sounded the horn twice.

The train then collided with the bicycle.

The victim was taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery. He did from his injuries early Saturday morning.

The victim was  identified as 49-year-old John Griswald.
