At approximately 3:00 pm this afternoon [Monday], police units were dispatched to a possible drowning in the Concho River near the Riverstage. Officers made contact with several witnesses who stated that a man had fallen into the water. One witness stated the man came up several times and appeared ok. Witnesses saw the man resting near a stone pillar near the Chadbourne Street Bridge. A witness stated that the man then went under and did not reappear. Several witnesses attempted to locate the man but were unsuccessful.

Members of the SAFD arrived and entered the water. They were ableto locate the victim who was unconscious. The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center where he is in critical condition. It is believed the victim was under water for a period of 15 to 20 minutes.

The victim was identified as Oscar Longoria, 7/7/53.
