Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a fire at about 6:00 p.m. Monday in the 5700 block of 14th Street.
By 6:30, LFR had the fire out. An elderly man in a wheelchair was taken by EMS to a local hospital with serious injuries. LFR later said he died.
“Lubbock Fire Rescue received word that the 86 year old male victim passed away at the hospital,” LFR said.
LFR later confirmed that the fire was an accident that started in the kitchen.
A total of four adults live in the home and only the one was hurt. LFR said there were dogs in the home and one of them died.
The fire marshal’s office was called to investigate the cause of the fire which was confined to one room. There was smoke damage throughout the house.
