Lubbock Police said a man was transported to hospital after being found stabbed in a parking lot at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Sunday evening.

The stabbing occurred in the 3400 block of 4th Street around 7:45 p.m.

According to Lubbock Police, the victim, witness and suspect were in a vehicle driving to the suspect’s residence. The vehicle was stopped at the traffic light at 4th and Indiana when the stabbing occurred.

The suspect became upset with the victim and he began to assault her in the vehicle. The victim located a knife in the vehicle and began to defend herself by striking the suspect with the knife.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and began to walk away. He was later located in a parking lot at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center with a stab wound to the chest. The man was then transported  to University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

The victim drove to a nearby apartment and called the police in reference to the assault.

Detectives were called out to investigate.

Texas Tech University Police also assisted with the case.
