LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock Police were called to the report of a shooting in the 2400 block of 36th Street Wednesday morning.
Albert Garza, the homeowner was sitting inside, he said, when he heard a rattling noise in the backyard.
“I went over there to see what was going on and I was confronted by an intruder,” Garza said.
So Garza said he tried to fight him off.
“There was a gun involved and it went off and hit me in the leg,” Garza said. “[The bullet] went in and then went back out, it was kind of scary at the moment.”
Through the terrifying ordeal, Garza is thankful his wife wasn’t home. He said the outcome could have been much worse.
An officer at the scene said just before 10:00 a.m., a resident came home and observed someone in his house. He chased the intruder out of the back door and confronted the intruder.
“A weapon was displayed,” the officer said. “As they fought over the weapon, the weapon discharged striking the victim in the leg.”
Police said the suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 5’4” tall, and 150 pounds. The suspect wore a skull type-mask, police said, and ran off with an unknown-type weapon.
