A man was charged with murder, after he turned himself in Tuesday at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. He was carrying a gun that he claimed to have used in the killing.
According to the arrest affidavit for Terry R. Drury, 63, deputies said he walked up to the dispatch window at the sheriff’s office.
He told the dispatch officer, “I need to turn myself in. I just shot Jeff Garrison in the head.”
Officials later discovered that Garrison was Drury’s former son-in-law. Garrison’s body was found on East County Road 156 on the south side of the roadway.
The affidavit said Garrison had a single gunshot wound to the face.
Deputies said Drury confessed to the crime, but had two conflicting stories on how the shooting happened.
However, according to authorities, neither story can be supported by evidence at the crime scene.
The affidavit said investigators also found that Drury bought a box of shotgun shells at the Altus Walmart before the shooting took place.
