Miguez Chavez, 24, of Lubbock was sentenced Tuesday to 7 years with deferred adjudication. That means if he stays of out trouble then he won’t have to serve the 7 years in prison.
Chavez was charged initially with attempted capital murder but later the charge was changed to aggravated assault on a public servant. A DWI charge was filed at the same time.
In September of 2012 Chavez was accused of using a motor vehicle to get away from a police officer who was on bike patrol. Court records said Chavez’ vehicle collided into the officer on his bike at Main Street and Avenue U. News accounts from the time indicated that the officer was dragged by Chavez’ vehicle.
A police report did not mention injuries to the officer. A police spokesman said the officer was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Chavez must also serve 15 days in jail for the DWI charge.
