David Perez sits at his daughter’s hospital bed as she recovers from life-threatening injuries she sustained in a car accident just outside of Ralls last week. Perez’s mom, wife and son, 3, died in the crash.

Annalize suffered a broken leg, chin fracture and tear in her liver.

“I have two roads ahead of me,” Perez said. “I could either go down with the depression, go through that sad road ahead of me or I could go down the right path. The right path is me being strong for my baby girl.”

Perez was at his loved ones’ funeral on Sunday when he got a call from doctors that Annalize had to go into emergency surgery.

“At that moment my heart just dropped,” Perez said. “I began to cry, I thought I was going to lose her. At the moment of being at the funeral home while paying respects to my family.”

Perez said he left the funeral to be by his daughter’s side.

He said the surgery went well and that doctors told him that Annalize will be in the hospital another week or two but is expected to fully recover.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to help offset some of the funeral costs and medical expenses.

“The support that people have been giving and offering is a blessing,” Perez said.

Perez said all he can do now is try to heal with his daughter.

“Don’t take life for granted,” Perez said.
