A manhunt was underway Tuesday afternoon in Smith County following a traffic stop near the city of Lindale and Interstate 20.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office stated the incident stems from a traffic stop at FM 849 and I-20 W. A police K-9 was shot and killed.  Officials had not yet released information about the events leading up to the shooting.

Two people were taken into custody and a third person was on the loose. Authorities said the man on the loose ran into a wooded area.

The Grand Saline Police Department later identified the suspect as Michael Paul Koch, 35, of Grand Saline. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and jacket in the Hideaway Lake area. The suspect was considered armed an dangerous.

MyEastTex.com was able to confirm the K-9 killed is Officer Ogar. He had just received a donated protection vest on Monday.
