Texas Tech freshmen pitchers Steven Gingery and Davis Martin were both named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team on Wednesday morning by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Gingery and Martin join a prestigious group of 12 other Red Raiders who have garnered Freshman All-America honors in school history as they are the fourth set of teammates to be recognized during the same season. This is the first time in school history where two pitchers have both been tabbed Freshman All-Americans.

Tech has now had six different Red Raiders earn Freshman All-America accolades during head coach Tim Tadlock’s four seasons as Jarrard Poteete and Eric Gutierrez were recognized in 2013 while Dylan Dusek and Stephen Smith received the honor in 2014.

Gingery enters this weekend’s NCAA Lubbock Super Regional with a 4-2 record and 3.38 earned-run average on the year as Tech’s primary Saturday starter. He was particularly effective during Big 12 play where he finished 3-0 overall with a 1.85 ERA over eight starts.

Gingery, a native of Huntington Beach, Calif., shares the team high with Martin for strikeouts after fanning 56 hitters over his 13 appearances (12 starts) this season. He was a second team All-Big 12 selection by the conference coaches as well as a member of the All-Freshmen team.

Martin, meanwhile, has been among the top freshmen in the country this season as he is currently a perfect 9-0 with a 2.31 ERA. He is one of two freshmen in the country with at least nine wins and an undefeated record this season, joining Bryant left-hander Steve Theetge.

Martin, a native of San Angelo, Texas, also has two saves this season to go along with 56 strikeouts and an impressive .225 opponent batting average. He opened the season in the bullpen and then moved to the rotation prior to Big 12 play where he was 6-0 with a 2.00 ERA against league foes.

Martin was named to the All-Big 12 first team by the conference coaches and was also a unanimous selection to the All-Freshmen squad. In addition, Martin is one of 18 players and one of just two freshmen to be named a semifinalist for the National Pitcher of the Year award.

The Red Raiders open the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional with a 7 p.m. first pitch Friday night in front of a sellout crowd at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. Tech will also face East Carolina in a 2 p.m. start on both Saturday and Sunday (if necessary).
