Join Maxey Community Center as they host their 11th annual Dog Day Howl-o-ween, a Halloween costume contest for dogs, on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Judges will be on hand to award prizes for different themed costume categories. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with judging starting at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $1 per dog or a donation of a dog toy. All donations will go towards prizes for future dog events.

The event will take place in Maxey Park on the volleyball court north of the Maxey Community Center at 30th Street and Oxford Avenue. Dogs must be on leash at all times and have current vaccinations. In case of rain, the event will move into the Social Hall in Maxey Community Center. Participants can register in advance at Maxey Community Center or on the day of the event beginning at 10:00 a.m. For more information or to register, call 767-3796.

City of Lubbock Animal Services will be available during this event to provide microchips for your dogs at a cost of $10 per dog. Micro-chipping is a permanent way to ensure that your pets can be identified should they ever become lost. To participate in this program, dog owners must reside within the city limits, and bring exact change and proof of rabies vaccination.

Maxey Community Center offers classes for all ages including Preschool, Youth, Teens, Adults and Seniors and is located at 4020 30th Street. They are open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 – 8:00 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 – 6:00 p.m., as well as on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
