Mayor Dan Pope is joining the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and Remember our Heroes in asking residents to turn on their porch lights this weekend in honor of Patriot Day, Sunday, September 11th.
The public is asked to keep their porch lights on from sunset Saturday, September 10th through sunrise Monday, September 12th to honor our military and first responders throughout the United States.
In a statement, Mayor Pope said, “Patriot Day is this Sunday, and I encourage all residents to join together in honoring our military and our first responders by keeping their porch lights on from Saturday evening through Monday morning. We owe these brave men and women a huge debt of gratitude for responding to crisis, risking their lives, ensuring our safety, and protecting our freedom at home and around the world. I hope everyone will participate in this patriotic event.”
