Mayor, City Council to Hold Special Recognition for Upcoming Small Business Saturday on November 21

Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope is encouraging citizens to support local business this holiday season. The Mayor and City Council will recognize the important contributions small businesses make to Lubbock’s economy and quality of life on Monday, November 21st with a Special Recognition for Small Business Saturday. The event will take place at Malouf’s located in the Kingsgate Shopping Center, 82nd Street and Quaker Avenue at 12:00 p.m.

Small Business Saturday started in November of 2010. The national effort encourages consumers to shop at local, independently owned businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. In 2015, 551 Mayors and City Officials joined together in support of this initiative. The Small Business Saturday Coalition reports that more than 95 million consumers shopped at a small business on Small Business Saturday last year, spending approximately $16.2 billion.

This year, Small Business Saturday will be celebrated on November 26th. As a consumer, you can support small business in lots of ways. You can patronize a local small business, invite friends to shop with you, or share on your social networks where you #ShopSmall. You can find new small businesses in our community through the Shop Small Map at ShopSmallNow.com.
