A very exciting weekend for the Hub City with plenty of events to pick from. Garth Brooks sold out all five shows at the United Spirit Arena. Arena employees told everythinglubbock that nearly 70,000 thousand tickets were purchased, and for some of the shows more than 50% of ticket purchasers were from out of town.
Hotels across town were booked, restaurants had to double up on staff and retailers greeted unfamiliar faces. Mayor Dan Pope said this is Lubbock’s time to thrive, and it’s weekends like this last one that help put Lubbock on the map.
“There’s a lot going on in Lubbock, Texas, we’re a community of over a quarter million people,” Pope said. “I like to say ‘it’s a great day in Lubbock, Texas’ and you can say that this last weekend or you could say it this coming weekend too.”
The ABC Pro Rodeo also held it’s 75th annual show over the weekend as well, inviting families across the region to enjoy all kinds of activities and experience the rodeo in the Hub City.
“I know a lot of people who went to Garth one night and rodeo the next night, or Garth in the afternoon and the rodeo in the evening,” Pope said.
CEO of Visit Lubbock, John Osborne said Lubbock benefited from the weekend in more ways than one.
“This past weekend was an exciting one filled with large-scale events like the 75th Annual ABC Pro Rodeo, five Garth Brooks concerts, two large religious events and one of the largest volleyball tournaments in the region,” said John Osborne, president and CEO of Visit Lubbock. “These high-caliber events filled our local hotels, boosted our economy and promoted tourism here in West Texas.”
