In commemoration of Memorial Day, the Nancy Anderson Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in conjunction with the Historic City of Lubbock Cemetery, will be holding a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 30, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held in the gazebo in front of the City of Lubbock Cemetery office at 2011 E 31st Street (two blocks east of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. on East 31st St). Admission is free of charge. Guests are highly encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets as chair seating will be limited.
Colonel Dave Lewis, United States Air Force (Retired) will be the featured speaker. Jaime Coy will give the Invocation. Ann Marie Slover will sing “God Bless America” and Beth Slover will sing the National Anthem. The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will be presenting our Nation’s colors and honoring our Veterans with a 21 Gun Salute followed by the playing of TAPS. The South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts of America will have various troops as well as Girl Scouts of America Troops #6302, #6367, #6372, #6340, #6424, #6361, #6371, and #6520 placing flags on the day of the service on gravesites that have a Veterans Administration Memorial headstone or footstone. Those attending the Memorial Day Service who have a loved one who is a veteran and who is buried at the Historic City of Lubbock Cemetery are encouraged to attend the service and place an American flag at their loved one’s gravesite. It is estimated that there are more than 2,000 veterans who are buried at the Historic City of Lubbock Cemetery.
