The Midland Police Department will be receiving body cameras for every officer.

Council members voted in favor of obtaining the cameras on Tuesday.

According to statements in the meeting that funding, in the first year, will come from a state grant and the cities drug seizure funds.

Police Chief Price Robinson said the cameras will improve both transparency and safety.

“What helps with the body cameras it has a greater range than the car,” Robinson said following the Tuesday meeting. “You know an officer gets out of the vehicle and goes to a certain point where you’re out of video range and you’re out of audio range and the body camera will just extend that.”
