An 8-year-old Midland student was sent home Tuesday morning after kneeling during the pledge of allegiance, according to the student’s mother.

The mother told YourBasin.com that the student was in class at Milam Elementary when he knelt during the morning pledge.

A spokesperson for the Midland Independent School District confirms that the student did kneel during the pledge. However, the MISD spokesperson says the student was not sent home for kneeling during the pledge. The student was sent home for “inflammatory” behavior.

School administrators wanted the student to go home to calm down, according to district officials.

The school district says the student will not be disciplined further and will be allowed to return to class tomorrow.
