The Midland Police Department arrested a man late last week in connection with several indecent exposure incidents involving school children.
Steven Chastain, 37, was arrested around noon Friday at his home. According to Midland Police, Chastain is accused of exposing himself to school children three separate times last week. The children were walking near Bonham Elementary, Henderson Elementary, and Midland High School.
According to Midland County Jail officials, Steven Chastain bonded out later in the day on Friday.
Parents, like Carla Alvarez at Henderson Elementary, are now reacting after finding out the news.
“Sickening,” Alvarez said. “Upset. What is this world coming to? Just scary. You read it and it’s just like, ‘why are these sickos preying on these kids?’ It’s just nasty.”
Midland Police Sergeant Jimmy Young said the department got more than 2,500 shares of the suspects picture on Facebook and that’s why they were able to catch Chastain so quickly.
This is something Henderson Elementary crossing guard Deborah Stacy is thankful for.
“He’s sick,” Stacy said. “He needs help. It’s ridiculous that somebody would want to put these kids in jeopardy like that. It’s terrible. I’m glad they caught him.”
Parents agree with Stacy, since jail records show Chastain lives close to another Midland school, Parker Elementary.
“Don’t even want to let your nephews even wait for you outside of the school, because of things like this,” said Alvarez.
This isn’t just confined to Midland. Last Thursday in Odessa, police said a man exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl, as she was walking to Dowling Elementary.
