A code enforcement officer found a body on a vacant lot in Midland Wednesday, prompting a police investigation.

Midland Police Department Spokeswoman Geena Arevalo said the code enforcement officer responded to the vacant lot in the 700 block of south Main Street after complaints of a smell were made. The body was reportedly found somewhere on the vacant lot.

Arevalo says it is being investigated as an unattended death and they are attempting to identify the body and notify next of kin.
