Sgt. Guadalupe Bretado has resigned from the Midland Police Department, according to city officials Tuesday.

His resignation comes after the sergeant was arrested and charged with assault (family violence) Dec. 30.

According to the original release from the city of Midland, Police were called to the 3700 block of North Edwards Street about a disturbance.

During the investigation police say they were led to believe that Bretado had assaulted his girlfriend and interfered with her attempt to call 9-1-1, according to a release from the MPD.

Bretado, according to police officials, has been employed with the MPD for more than 16 years and is assigned to the police division at the Midland International Air and Space Port.

MPD officials have declined to comment on the investigation.

He has since been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
