A 13-year-old boy died Friday morning in Midland in an accident while trying to run across Texas Avenue at O Street. Midland ISD then confirmed on Friday afternoon that he was a student at San Jacinto High School.

MISD Director of Communications, Woodrow Bailey, released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by the report that one of our San Jacinto JHS students was fatally injured this morning during a traffic accident. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with this student’s parents and family.”

Bailey also said, “This tragedy has deeply affected the entire district and many of our students. Our crisis team immediately responded and will continue to provide support as long as necessary.”

The teen was hit by a pickup and then taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. He passed away shortly after.

Further investigation revealed that the teen was not in a crosswalk when he was hit. While the investigation is ongoing, no citations or charges have been issued. The family has been notified.
