It’s been 15 years since Miss Texas has made an appearance in the Hub City, but Caroline Carothers made the trip and in two days spoke to over 1,500 students about following their dreams and doing well in school.
Carothers won the title of Miss Texas at the age of 20. She went on the place in the top seven at the Miss America competition. She has traveled thousands of miles across the state of Texas during her year long speaking tour and finally made a stop in Lubbock.
“It was heartbreaking to me when I found out that Miss Texas hasn’t been to Lubbock in years,” Carothers said. “So I really hope that I open this door for future Miss Texas’ because they need to come and experience this part of Texas.”
During her year of service Caroline has used her personal platform entitled “With Math I Can” to instill a love of learning math at a young age. As Miss Texas, Carothers has spoken to students about characters education and reaching goals. She believes there is three steps anyone must take in order to reach their goals: Respect, Doing Well in School and Perseverance.
As Miss Texas, Carothers hopes to make the crown more personal to others by showing them that Miss Texas is real and relatable.
“My school program is definitely broad enough that it can relate to a lot of children,” Carothers said. “I tell a lot of personal stories about being a military child, my sport of baton twirling and my love of math. So I think that it really does relate to every child.”
