Critics are calling Arrival a thinking-person’s sci-fi film, and saying it will become a modern day classic. Amy Adams stars as an expert linguist who tries to communicate with visiting aliens. Their presence, however, takes the world to the brink of war. The movie’s twist may very well blow your mind. It’s rated PG-13 and runs right at two hours. Decipher it at either Cinemark, the Alamo, and Premiere.
Now that the election is over, you can still enjoy parody of the process with the Lubbock Community Theatre‘s experimental theater premiere. There are only two more performances of Ubu Roy: An American Tale. Jared Strange, who earned his Masters in Playwriting from Texas Tech, adapted the notorious 1896 French play that shocked its audience. The show starts at 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday nights. The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra continues its 70th Season with the masterworks concert: Romeo and Juliet, by Prokofiev. They will also perform Bernstein’s Overture to West Side Story, and Pianist Adam Golka will join them for Rachmaninoff’s Concerto Number 3. Just eight more days until the Texas Tech Opera Theatre production of Phantom of the Opera. In conjunction with Moonlight Broadway, the show stars David Gaschen who has performed the title role more than 1,300 times. There are 11 performances from the 18th to the 27th, and it coincides with Holiday Happening. Tickets are in the $40 to $100 range and on sale now through Select-a-Seat.
