Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a motorcycle accident just south of Lubbock Sunday afternoon.

The accident was reported around 1:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 87, just north of 114th Street.

The Department of Public Safety told EverythingLubbock.com the sidecar on the motorcycle struck a guard rail.

This caused the motorcycle to roll over and the driver was thrown off.

The driver was transported to University Medical Center with unknown injuries, authorities said.

The DPS said the driver was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the accident. 

The victim was identified as Donald Stroud, 59, of Lubbock.

Northbound traffic on U.S. Highway 87 was diverted onto the frontage road while crews worked at the accident scene.
