On Sunday, June 5, 2016, around 5:15 p.m., New Mexico State Police officers responded to the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash.  This crash occurred near the 109 mile marker on U.S. 62 east of  Hobbs, New Mexico.

The initial investigation revealed that a motorcycle, driven by Stephen Ekstrom (55) from Midland, TX, was traveling westbound on U.S. 62 when he took the Port of Entry exit. The Port was closed at the time so the driver laid the motorcycle onto its side to avoid a head-on collision with a closed gate.  As a result the driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger, Pamela Sisi (54) from Midland, TX, sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX.

This vehicle crash is still under investigation.
