Campus police at the University of Texas at Austin are investigating a possible homicide after discovering a body in a creek on campus Tuesday, according to astatement from university president Gregory Fenves.
According to CBS affiliate KEYE,the University of Texas police department responded to reports of a body in a creek on campus west of the Alumni Center at 10:46 a.m. Tuesday morning.
School officials aren’t releasing the name of the victim or any further details until family has been notified, Fenves wrote. He said the school is working with Austin police to identify possible suspects.
Based on information from police, the campus is continuing to operate fully and all classes and events remain on schedule, according to the statement.
Fenves called the death a tragedy.
“I have spoken with campus public safety leaders and am writing to assure you that we are doing everything possible to ensure safety on campus,” he wrote.
