Sweetwater Police are investigating  a murder that occurred late Sunday morning.

The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Fowler Street around 11:15 a.m.

Authorities reported that two males got into an altercation. One suspect was trying to get the victim into the vehicle, according to officials.

Once both males where inside the vehicle, it swerved and hit a mailbox before coming to a halt on the curb.

Police Chief Brian Frieda confirmed to BigCountryHomepage.com that one of the subject was shot to death.

Authorities are trying to determine if the victim was shot while in the vehicle or as soon as he got out.

The victim was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sweetwater Police along with the DPS were on scene interviewing neighbors and witnesses.

Tanner Engle, was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Engle is currently at the Nolan County Jail for the charge.

At this time, officials have not confirmed the bond amount or Engle’s relationship with the victim.

The body of the victim will be transported to Lubbock for a full autopsy, according to police.
