Murder Warrant Issued For Wanted Abilene Shooting Suspect

A shooter remains at large two days after an Abilene man was killed and another critically wounded early Sunday morning.

The Abilene Police Department is still searching for Manuel Guadalupe Garcia, 20. He’s wanted on a First Degree Murder Warrant in connection to the death of Ryan Roberts, 32, who was shot and killed around 1:00 a.m. Garcia is “considered armed and extremely dangerous,” according to a press release from APD which urges citizens to, “not approach [Garcia] under any circumstances.”

Police are asking, “anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Manuel Garcia should contact the Abilene Police Department by utilizing 911 or 325-673-8331 or Crime Stoppers at 325-676-8477 (676-TIPS) immediately.”

Emergency crews found Roberts deceased at a home on the 900 block of Merchant Street. A second victim, Dewayne Welch, 32, was found wounded at a second residence in north Abilene and transported to the hospital.

Court documents reveal what the surviving victim of a shooting in Abilene early  Sunday morning told police.
The documents say Dewayne Welch called 9-1-1 from a home in north Abilene around 1:00 a.m. Emergency crews responded and found Welch suffering from four gunshot wounds. They also found a second victim, Ryan Roberts, 32, deceased inside a residence nearby. He had an apparent gunshot wound to the head, the documents reveal.

Welch told officers he was in his room when he heard a gunshot, according to the documents which say Welch “immediately ran into the living room where he saw Manuel Garcia with a gun pointed at him.”

Welch claims Garcia then shot him four times, but he was able to take cover then run to a neighbor’s house to call for help.

An incident report claims Welch identified Garcia, his roommate, as the suspect.

Roberts’ body has been taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed.
