Mustang football fans are gearing up early for the 2017 season as Shallowater ISD welcomes a new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach into the program.
With a packed house at a special SISD School Board meeting held on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:15 p.m., Coach Bryan Wood was named Head Football Coach and Athletic Director for the Shallowater Mustang football program after a unanimous vote by board members.
After more than a month-long search, and following a process of narrowing down from 108 applicants for the position, a selection committee reached finality as it pertained to the new athletic director/Head Football Coach for the Mustangs. SISD Superintendent, Dr. Kenny Border, recommended Coach Bryan Wood to the board to lead the Shallowater Athletic program and the Shallowater Mustang Football team.
Wood comes to SISD from the Canyon Randall athletic program where he compiled a 149-58 record while leading the Class 5A team to the regional finals in 2010 and 2011 and to the state quarterfinals in 2014 and 2015 as the head coach and athletic coordinator. Coach Wood currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association, is a member of the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, and is on the board for Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Wood will come to Shallowater with his family. He and his wife, Brandy, have three children, Kinsey, who is a junior at WTAMU, Koby, who is currently a junior at Randall HS, and Kamryn, who is currently an 8th grader at Westover Park JH.
Following a tough 2016 season, the Shallowater Mustangs already have a positive outlook on this year’s season. With a multitude of talented and motivated Mustangs returning to the field, Shallowater is anticipating a great season. The Mustangs are expected to return nine defensive players and eight offensive players.
Shallowater ISD is thrilled to welcome Coach Wood to the Mustang program.
