National Park Service: Vandalism at Fritch Fortress in the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

Fritch Fortress Amphitheater located within Lake Meredith National Recreation Area has seen a rash of vandalism over the last several weeks. Vandalism of this type hurts the local visiting community who utilize the park for recreation. Trash cans have been “bashed in” along with park signage that has been removed and totally destroyed.

Damage includes stop signs, yield signs, speed limit signs and the theater lighting at the Fritch Fortress Amphitheater. Vandalism is “action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property”. The Chimney Hollow area of the park has also seen its share of major damage including five signs that were removed and burned. The Bulletin Board Plexiglas has been shattered and all of the contents is now missing. Picnic tables has also seen damage at different locations within the park.


Starting Friday, February 24, 2017 the park will temporary close Fritch Fortress Amphitheater area at night and open in the morning as part of daily park operations.
