The Federal Bureau of Investigation is urging everyone to reboot their home and office routers to thwart a malware attack by foreign actors.

According to a public service announcement from the FBI, foreign cyber actors have potentially compromised hundreds of thousands of routers and networked devices all over the world using VPNFilter malware. The malware is able to collect information, exploit devices, block network traffic and render routers inoperable.

The FBI says owners of small office and home office routers should reboot the devices to disrupt the malware. They should also consider disabling remote management settings on their devices and reset their passwords. Users should update network devices to the latest versions of firmware to prevent further malware attacks.
