PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – The principal of a Pasco County school is accused of stealing money that a student brought to school.
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Edward Ebernathy, 50, of Land O’ Lakes on a charge of Grand Theft. Ebernathy is the principal at Connerton Elementary School in Land O’ Lakes.
Investigators say on Oct. 23, a 9-year-old special needs student brought $2,100 to school. The money belonged to the boy’s parents.
When teachers realized what the boy had done, they took the money and counted it, then took it to the principal’s office.
When the mother of the student went to get the money, investigators say the principal gave her only $1,200, not the $2,100 her child brought to school.
The investigation determined the principal kept the $900 difference, according to the sheriff’s office.
